Regional Material Resource Recovery FacilityIn 1984, Taormina Industries opened its Regional Material Resource Recovery Facility, where thousands of tons of solid waste and recyclables are processed. An average of 3,200 tons of material pass through the facility each day, traveling along the 800-foot-long automated and manual sorter/conveyor system which separates more than 70 types of recyclables. Next, the materials are bundled and transferred for immediate shipment to domestic and international markets worldwide. Remaining non-recyclable waste is moved to the on-site 40,000-square-foot solid waste transfer operation for final processing and consolidation before delivery to Southern California landfills. Taormina Industries' fully computerized reporting system is unique in the industry. It documents all incoming and outgoing solid waste and recyclable materials. State law mandates cities to reduce the volume of their landfill deposits or sustain substantial penalties. In response to these laws and in keeping with its own commitment to Conserving Earth's Resources, Taormina Industries' programs emphasize waste reduction, reuse and recycling via Community Outreach and Education. |
Taormina Industries' employees also participate in community
events with the company's mobile information unit. Always moving forward, Taormina Industries is now developing its specialized on-site manufacturing facility for processing recyclables directly into "new" products. Thus, the cycle will be complete: from user to recycler to "re"manufacturer and back again to the user. |
